The Most popular movie ever Avatar.

Is Avatar Worth Seeing For The Special Effects Alone?

Author: George Hutton

If you happen to be one of the few people left on planet Earth who hasn't seen "Avatar," then this article will help you decide. I'll give you my professional opinion on whether or not seeing "Avatar" is worth your hard earned money.

First of all, even if you saw the movie in a language that you didn't understand, you would be impressed by the massive advances that have been made in computer aided graphics. Aliens, of course, are a large part of the movie, and they seem as real as your next door neighbor. The stunning scenery, the colorful fauna all make Avatar a fantastic feast for the eyes.

If you require a deep and thought provoking plot from your movies, then you may have to take a pass on "Avatar". The plot of "Avatar" is as predictable as your daily commute, and as old as the hills.

The movie takes place in the future, far into the future, when humans have decided that they need to go to another planet and steal their resources. Of course, the planet is inhabited by friendly aliens who are dependent on this resource. Obviously, if you are human, and you have weapons, the easiest way is to simply steal what you want.

Sound familiar? It is. Many have drawn parallels between the humans of the future, and the humans of the past who stole land from the Native Americans. It doesn't take long to browse through human history to find many examples of people with superior technology taking things from those who can't resist their superior technology. Cortez and the Native South Americans, The French and Africa, and the list goes on and on.

One questionable plot element of "Avatar" is that the only way the aliens can fight against the evil humans is if they are joined by one of the humans. (It goes without saying that the actual aliens are the humans. I use the term here for consistency.)

James Cameron is obviously an extremely skilled movie maker, couldn't he think of a better way for the aliens to effectively resist the invading humans?

Despite the predictable story and the peculiar need for a white guy to help save the blue people from other resource stealing humans, Avatar is such a stunning success because despite it's plot flaws, and seeming condescendence, the movie is a breathtaking visual delight. I therefore wholeheartedly recommend "Avatar" with two thumbs up, as its visual pleasure far overwhelms it's predictable plot.
